Deck of Illusions

A hand-painted deck of 34 cards

This set of parchment cards is wrapped in velvet. It consists of 34 cards in 4 suits. When a card is drawn at random and thrown to the ground, an illusion with audible and visual components is formed. This lasts until dispelled. The illusionary creature will not go more than 30 feet away from where the card landed, but will otherwise move and act as if it were real. When the illusion is dispelled, the card becomes blank and cannot be used again. If the card is picked up, the illusion is automatically and instantly dispelled.

The cards in the deck and the illusions they bring forth are as follows:

  • Red dragon
  • Fighter and four guards
  • Female wizards
  • Druid
  • Cloud giant
  • Ettin
  • Bugbear

Crafted by itinerant Gold Elves, this deck somehow fell into the possession of Orphast Ulbanath of Arabel “for safe-keeping.” After holding onto it for an unspecified number of years, Orphast sold it to Phloyd Phlumpkins of Tyrluk for 1,500 gold crowns in the month of Hammer in the Year of the Shadows.
